Sydney Harbour
Sydney Harbour, home to the iconic Sydney landmarks such as the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, is one of the amazing must-visit destinations on your travel itinerary. The cruises that ply the harbour waters are some of the best in the world. If the word “cruise” seems expensive, I assure you, it is not. You can admire the harbour attractions aboard a Sydney lunch cruise combining an amazing sightseeing experience with restaurant-quality dining. From a premium glass boat to an authentic paddlewheeler and ultra-modern catamaran, there are many vessels to choose from. If you are a night person, you can board a Sydney Harbour dinner cruise and enjoy a spectacular night out that you will remember for a lifetime.
Australian Museum
Located in the Central Business District, the Australian Museum, one of the oldest museums in Australia is an amazing place of interest, especially for history buffs. A place where nature, culture, and science intersect, the Australian Museum is notable for its exhibitions and Indigenous studies. There are over one million cultural objects and scientific specimens in the museum collection. Being a vast space covering three levels, the museum provides a more in-depth insight into Aboriginal narratives, history, and art.
Barangaroo Reserve
Barangaroo Reserve, the newest foreshore park in Sydney, is one of the lesser appreciated attractions, though I feel it is worth taking the time out to visit. Being a magnificent example of urban renewal, the creation of Barangaroo Reserve saw the transformation of one of Sydney’s earliest industrial sites into an expansive space for Sydneysiders and tourists to experience. It was just a desolate concrete container terminal a few years ago, and now it’s a highly welcoming park with more than 10,000 native trees and plants.
The Queen Victoria Building
If you have an eye for design and architecture, you should definitely visit the Queen Victoria Building, popularly referred to as ‘QVB’. This building took almost five years to complete and now it stands as the biggest building in commemoration of the Queen of England. It replaced the original Sydney markets on the same site and transformed into one of the best places in Sydney to do some upscale shopping. You will find plenty of stores to choose from, such as boutique fashion shops, fancy eateries, and so on. You can also check out the two giant mechanical clocks on the upper floors, as well as its elaborate Romanesque architecture.
Hyde Park Barracks
Hyde Park Barracks is a venerable living record of colonial Australia. Being the best remaining example of large-scale convict housing, Hyde Park Barracks has been categorised under one of the 11 Australian Convict Sites protected by UNESCO. The Barracks had been used as an immigration depot and asylum during the colonial expansion of European powers. Today, it houses a modern museum that offers its visitors a highly intriguing and immersive experience with the aid of audio soundbites. You might have been to many museums before, but I assure you, Hyde Park Barracks will be nothing like you have ever experienced before.
These are some of the gems I recommend to add to your ‘Sydney Highlights’—Sydney Harbour, Australian Museum, Barangaroo Reserve, and more.

Opera House, Sydney
The best part about visiting the Sydney Opera House is that you get to witness another iconic landmark along with it, the 134m high steel-arch Sydney Harbour Bridge. A scenic Sydney Harbour Lunch Cruise is your best option to enjoy the unparalleled views of these magnificent icons, away from the busy crowds. The Opera House, renowned for being one of the most recognisable buildings in the world, is probably the busiest performing art venue as well. The view of this impeccable edifice coupled with views of the city skyline and the famous Harbour Bridge is a blessing to the eye of whoever sees it. The Lunch Cruise on SydneyHarbour is your ultimate ticket to enjoy front-row seats to this vista, and to top it off with a delicious fare makes it even more special.
Angkor Wat, Cambodia
Angkor Wat is just one of the hundreds of surviving temples and monuments, but is the most prominent building in the country and also appears on the national flag! This legendary temple complex was built over 900 years ago by Khmer King Suryavarman, to honour the Hindu God Vishnu. This archaeological site is the largest religious monument in the world and is an example of the architectural pinnacle of the Khmer Empire. One can easily explore the site and its fascinating history with a guided tour. But whether you go for a guided tour or choose to explore on your own, be sure to climb to the top of this monumental structure for truly breathtaking views!
Taj Mahal, Agra
On the banks of the majestic River Yamuna, lies one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Taj Mahal, a renowned symbol of love and romance. Emperor Shah Jahan deputed over 20,000 workers to build the monument as a tribute to his late wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died during the birth of their 14th child. The building was built with the finest resources available in the whole of Asia and houses a mosque, Mumtaz’s tomb and a guesthouse. The pure white marble, precious gemstones along with the impeccable ornamentation makes it one of the most desired tourist destinations on the planet.
Machu Picchu, Peru
Dubbed as one of the Wonders of the Modern World, Machu Picchu is located on the summit of Andes Mountain in Peru. This Lost City of the Incas is one of the most famous ruins in the world and is guaranteed to mesmerise even the most well-travelled backpackers. This is one of those places you can see on top of every traveller’s bucket list and rightly so; yet, as famous as it is, it is one of the least understood archaeological sites in the world. But what we do know is the fact that this monumental site is located within acres of cloud forest with lush, green flora. You can choose to hike through the Inca Trail to gain a deeper insight into the region’s biodiversity when you travel through valleys, mountain passes and a couple of microclimates! Who knows, maybe you might even stumble across the rare Spectacled Bear!

Explore the harbour waters on aSydney dinner cruise
It’s a great chance to see the country’s celebrated architectural wonders–Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge–from up close and in a different light. Of course, there are several ways to see these marvellous structures but a harbour cruise dinner stands a class apart as it promises a spectacle of the dazzling harbour and the city skyline. From stunning glass boats and yachts to a paddlewheeler and catamarans, the harbour flaunts a stylish fleet of vessels perfect for sightseeing in the area. The best thing about choosing a cruise is that it is quite affordable and offers a more comprehensive Sydney dining experience compared to the other waterfront restaurants and cafes in the area — a great option for an evening out with your mates.
Take a dip at Bronte Baths
This beautiful ocean bath is built into a rocky cliffside with its stairs leading down to a pool area. Overlooking the aqua blue waters on Bronte Beach, this pool is simply spectacular in all ways. Although the best time for swimming at the bath is at low tide, the place looks its best during high tide. The waves crash over the pool at high tide, making it a fun place to be. On one side of the pool, there are sandstone cliffs jutting out over the edge of the pool; wade underneath these cliffs to escape the scorching sun here in the afternoon.
Explore the hidden oasis at Wendy’s Secret Garden
This garden might be far from being a secret, but it surely is a wonderful place of enchantment. History says the garden once belonged to Wendy, wife to artist Brett Whitely. When Wendy Whitely lost her husband in 1992, she created the garden out of a disused train yard space in her attempt to funnel her love and grief for her late husband. This piece of land is now a beautiful oasis with many towering fig trees, curling ferns, bronze busts, wooden carvings, flowering lilies and plenty of other native plants.
Go whale watching or hiking in the Royal National Park
With its stunning coastal walks, natural rock pools and secluded beaches, the Royal National Park is abundant in Insta-worthy locations. Whether you’re looking for a place to go swimming, trekking, biking or any other outdoor activity for that matter, I promise you, the national park is the best place to have an adventure and fun-filled day in the city. Another great thing to look forward to at the park is the whale watching season (May to November) where you can watch the majestic creatures on their migration. Two other hotspots worth visiting while you’re here are Wedding Cake Rock and the Figure Eight Rock Pool.
There are some things that you just can’t avoid when visiting a city. And these were four of my topmost picks for my beloved readers. But clearly, this isn’t all there’s to see in Sydney. I’ll be back with more destinations and information for you. Till then, stay tuned folks!

Some markets only open during specific days; for instance, Rocks Market comes alive on the weekends and the well-known Glebe Market opens only on Saturdays.

To add a more luxurious feel to the whole experience, head to Westfield at the bottom of the Sydney Tower Eye, where you will find almost everything you need for your retail therapy. Later, maybe you can head up the iconic Sydney Tower, to Bar83 and enjoy a cocktail and take in 360° views of the cityscapes!
Aboriginal Tours
Are you intrigued by how the original custodians of the land laid the foundations for what now thrives as Aboriginal art and culture in numerous parts of the city? Then head to the heart of The Rocks, Cadman Cottage for a 90-minute enlightening session with Dreamtime X. Dive deep into the heritage of the Aboriginals and their spiritual ties with the foreshores and waterways of the land. You will be welcomed with an Aboriginal greeting, learn about the local languages spoken and hear more about the Aboriginal dreamtime origin, history and culture. Enjoy a Bird's Eye View of Sydney
By the time you spend a couple of days in the city, you have probably experienced it on foot, by a vehicle or on the waters, and there’s no reason to leave out the skies. Experience the best of Sydney and its precincts from the ‘top’ vantage point in the city, the skies! Glide over the famous coastline on a 30-min scenic seaplane tour before a final circuit over the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. The tour usually culminates at a beautiful waterfront restaurant where you can feast on an array of seafood dishes and enjoy fizzy drinks to finish your perfect experience. You can also check out the HeliTours in and around the city to enjoy a broader view of Sydney including Bondi, Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley and everything in between.

After all the activities, it is unavoidable to give an epic closure to your day and sometimes, family-friendly destinations are too pricey and unaffordable. A dinner cruise on Sydney Harbour is definitely a great choice for your night-out destination. From the luxury glass boat and the unique paddlewheeler to a budget-friendly catamaran, there are many dinner cruise options you can choose from. Who would not like combining an astonishing sightseeing experience with high-end restaurant-quality dining? So, that’s sorted I think!
Oh no… I should have done numbering the ideas properly. But it’s okay! Now it’s in the order of importance! Let’s get back to this…
Once everyone’s up and ready to go, you can start the day by hitting Bondi — the popular Sydney beach. You may be wondering why anyone would suggest going to a beach first, but let me tell you, it is the best thing and kind of the most popular thing to do while in Sydney. Let me assure you — it is the most delightful thing to do! SpeFdanding your morning on Sydney’s Bondi beach could be the most appropriate opening to your vacation. It is important to carry your sunscreen and all beach essentials. Ensure everyone’s happy and simply having a blast. Build sandcastles with your kids, take a dip in the ocean, and catch a surf. Once you have your lovely tan- tint, enjoy some of the local delicacies available in the nearby restaurants!
After a good morning spent in Bondi, head over to the Taronga Zoo, which interestingly true to its name of Aboriginal origins, means ‘ beautiful view ’. It is certain that the little kids, as well as the adults, will be joyful seeing all the lovely, playful Aussie wildlife around including the koalas, sugar gliders, kangaroos, and wallabies. Find a good high- tea in Sydney to suit your budget and after your visit to the zoo, I’d recommend attending a high- tea with the family — as a refreshment and a tool to rejuvenate!
With an hour or two to kill until your dinner, stroll along the popular Circular Quay, just a walk away from Kings Street Wharf where your dinner for the night is planned. You can perhaps consider renting a car to explore the surroundings with your family and relax a bit before getting into dinner. Enjoy the afternoon sun and its radiance, and click some spectacular family photographs in the backdrop!
Now, comes the best part — dinner aboard a Sydney Harbour cruise! Enjoy the spectacular panoramic harbour views and enjoy a scrumptious dinner, freshly prepared by expert in-house chefs. If you want to combine your dinner with drinks, certainly you can. You can purchase a beverage package and elevate the spirit of your family night.
As I mentioned earlier, it is hard to plan a family getaway with all your family members, especially kids. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have one and it is impossible to have one. Honestly, family getaways are important to cultivate a healthy ground essential for your children’s growth. It can add charm, care, and love to your bonds and thereby to make the familial bonds stronger!

Sound is usually the last element to be put in place in movies, but it is the essential element in this unique environmentally charged work. Bernie Krause, the brain behind this unique experience, has worked with artists such as The Doors and George Harrison, and has made film scores for Apocalypse Now.
